Clichés That Have Lasted
Published by on February 9th 2010
The reason clichés are repeated so often is because they are so often on target!
Here are four clichés that have lasted the test of time:
1. If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.
What great advice! Getting up after a failure is so important. As I have studied many great men and women, none succeeded the first time out and in most cases they failed miserably.
2. Dance with the one who brung you.
This is a great reminder about loyalty and appreciation.
3. Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.
Preparation is the key in any endeavor. By the way, that saying comes from Seneca, the Roman philosopher who was born 5 B.C.
4. Other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?
This is a great reminder not to focus on the little issues while ignoring the major ones.
Next time you hear a cliché; don’t automatically throw out the “cheesy” word. It may have a message you need to hear.
