The Connect Factor - Seven Pre-Service Disconnects

While many people without church homes visit a church on Easter and Christmas, church leaders often struggle getting these guests to return for a second Sunday. Research studies reveal that people decide whether they will return to a church within the first four to eight minutes of arriving to the church. This is before they hear the first song or any of the sermon. People want to connect right away. Unfortunately, too many disconnects early in their visit can mean they leave and never return.

Get connected. Get plugged in. Get in touch. Establish relationships. Become joined, united or linked. These are all reasons people join a church or any organization. People want to connect – to God, to believers, and to the world. People are seeking to be united with other believers and with God.

As I stood in an unfamiliar church and began to worship to the music, something wonderful happened. Every time a lyric talked about Jesus bringing change or healing into a life, people began to cheer, clap and celebrate. If you walked into this service without knowing the full story, you might miss the impact of the scene. It was a worship time connected to a Celebrate Recovery group…it was amazing.
