Lesson from Psalms

The book of Psalms is so rich; you can almost find a lesson from each verse and easily one from each chapter.  I often read the chapter in Psalm coordinating with the day of the month, which is a practice someone told me about long ago. Even though I read the same verses over and over again, God speaks to me in different ways.

Seasoned Speech

Since my husband and I now have four precious grand-daughters, there may be a few stories about them from time to time. This one is about our five year old, Abby Grace. The other day she wanted some peanuts. She asked for the kind with “sugar” on them. I told her I didn’t have any with sugar but I gave her some of my unsalted peanuts. She was not happy with those and said they were “Yuck!” Later my daughter clued me in and said she calls the salt on the peanuts “sugar.” Well, sugar or salt, she just wanted some with seasoning! Needless to say I bought a big can of SALTED peanuts for the next time she visited.

The words of the Brian Doerken song, “Refiner’s Fire” have always moved my soul in a profound way and it’s always at a different level.  The song’s intimate chorus cries, “Refiner’s Fire, My heart’s one desire is to be holy, Set apart for you, Lord.”

Welcome to Life Catalyst!

It’s 2010 and although the statistics say 85% of churches have reached a plateau or are declining, we know that God wants His church to excel. Remember, God believes in you more than you believe in yourself. He wants to strengthen your faith and accomplish things in and through you.

Reflecting on Reflecting

Now is the time of year that we all begin reflecting on the year.  What happened in our family?  How has our life changed?  News shows highlight the major events of the year (many of which we have already forgotten.)  During a season when we reflect so readily, is there a useful way to contemplate the year in review?

Avoiding the Parkinson Laws

C. Northgate Parkinson lived from 1909-1993, was a famous British economist and was also known for many other accomplishments. Here are three laws he identified that relate to our world today.
