Roll Away

Roll Away

One of the most important ways to build relationships with kids is to share interesting facts about your life. As a children’s minister in a large church while demonstrating an object lesson to a group of pre-teens, I mentioned my favorite candy, Rolo brand chocolates. A few years later God called my husband and I to another church and I received hundreds of Rolo candies from the kids. In fact, there were so many, several children pulled a wagonload on the platform. That small piece of information created a bond special with the kids. Relationships mean a lot, especially if you want to get to know a child well enough to share Jesus!

What Makes a Child Want to Read the Bible?  Part 1

The Bible is fundamental to our faith in Jesus Christ and as we disciple kids; we must pass that faith on to them. So how do we get our children excited about reading the Bible? How do we move from teaching them a Bible story on the weekends to instilling in them a hunger to read and learn from it for themselves?

The Learning Environment in Children’s Ministry

Creating a positive emotional environment involves making sure all the children, regardless of their needs, are comfortable with the other children and leaders in the room. When comfortable conditions exist, children thrive!

To Reward or Not To Reward

This subject has been discussed in every children’s ministry conference I have attended with many diverse views. Each person must decide what is best for ministry at church and at home with their own children. Today it is hard to impress kids because they have so much. We need to find a balance between making them feel proud of their accomplishments and creating a dependency on rewards.
