Is Your Home A Refuge?
Published by on August 31st 2010
The summer months are over and the daily routines are back to a typical pace. What is that pace for your family? Do your children have dance lessons, ball practice, meetings after school and then come home for two hours of homework? Dinner is usually picked up from the fast food drive through and eaten on the way home. Family conversation is spent communicating about what activity is next or “Hurry, you’ll be late!”
Who Are You?

When you are asked that question what is your response? I usually say, “I am Scotty’s wife, Jenny or Jake’s mom, Abby Grace, Ashlyn, Jillian Kate, or Jessa-Claire’s Gigi, Jay and Rosemary’s daughter or Brad’s sister.” My family is very important to me, but my personal identity should be based on who I am in Christ. In ministry to children some critical lessons can be taught at an early age to provide a basis for living a successful, triumphant life in Him.
And The Winner Is . . .

Reality shows are very popular on television today. My five year old grand-daughter knows all about American Idol, Biggest Loser, Dancing with the Stars and The Bachelor/Bachelorette. These shows are interesting to watch but every week someone has to be told they don’t have what it takes to stay on the show. They are asked to leave because there can only be one winner.
Lesson from Psalms

The book of Psalms is so rich; you can almost find a lesson from each verse and easily one from each chapter. I often read the chapter in Psalm coordinating with the day of the month, which is a practice someone told me about long ago. Even though I read the same verses over and over again, God speaks to me in different ways.
Friends in the Family

In the book of Genesis there are several references to family relationships that are not very pleasant. In fact you may remember the first two brothers didn’t get along at all! We have all heard the story about Cain, Abel and the first murder in the Bible. How could that happen between brothers? Can you spell
J-E-A-L-O-U-S-Y? When God asked Cain where his brother was, he said, “Am I my brother’s keeper?”
A Special Verse for Children
Published by on June 29th 2010
There are many verses in the Bible written about children. Some are specifically for instruction and guidance. Others are stories of real life experiences. In Mark 10:14 Jesus welcomed the children, took them in His arms and blessed them.
Seasoned Speech

Since my husband and I now have four precious grand-daughters, there may be a few stories about them from time to time. This one is about our five year old, Abby Grace. The other day she wanted some peanuts. She asked for the kind with “sugar” on them. I told her I didn’t have any with sugar but I gave her some of my unsalted peanuts. She was not happy with those and said they were “Yuck!” Later my daughter clued me in and said she calls the salt on the peanuts “sugar.” Well, sugar or salt, she just wanted some with seasoning! Needless to say I bought a big can of SALTED peanuts for the next time she visited.
Fearfully and Wonderfully Made
Published by on May 25th 2010
In the last two months, the Lord has blessed our family with TWO new granddaughters! This verse in Psalm 139: 13-16 has come alive in a fresh new way to us:
“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.”
