Getting Ready for Christmas Part 2

Use these ideas to prepare your heart for Jesus!

Getting Ready for Christmas Part 1

We do many things to prepare for Christmas. Our time is spent buying presents, baking cookies, attending parties and decorating our homes. This year, let me suggest getting ready for Christmas in a new way. Use the suggestions in the next few weeks for your children’s ministry or send them home to the families in your church. Prepare your hearts for the birth of the Christ child!

Involvement in Ministry Keeps Children in Church

Does it seem like the boys and girls in your ministry walk in each week, sit down and wait to be entertained? Do they think of church as something to check off their list as another thing they have to endure just because their parent or guardian said so? Imagine what it would be like to have the children involved in the ministry. Actually “being” the church instead of church “being done” to them?

Don’t Forget to Say Thank You

How many times do we remind young children to say thank you? Being thankful is sometimes taken for granted because we have so many blessings. Children need to realize there are people who are homeless, cold or hungry. Being compassionate, especially at this time of year, can help a child become more generous and have a thankful heart.

The Family Meal—is it Possible?

What is the “family” meal? Is it sitting around the television with a paper plate? Is it grabbing a bite in the car on the way home?

I am not trying to make anyone feel guilty because I know things have changed since my kids were young. We didn’t go out to eat much then, but now my 5 year old granddaughter doesn’t ask me what I am cooking, she asks me where we are going to eat!

Orange You Glad You Love Jesus?

Fall is such an exciting time of year. It makes me think of football, pumpkins, leaves, and the smell of cinnamon. What a great time to remind the kids of our many blessings—especially Jesus!

What Do Parents Want Their Child’s Teacher to be Like?

Parents want the best for their children, especially from the teachers at church. They want godly men and women who can set a good example for their child. It is also important for the teacher to love in all situations. To be patient, but firm; kind, encouraging and friendly to their child and the family in and out of the classroom.

Small Groups for Children

Tips that help us think:

Every child, every week, should have a one-on-one encounter with a small group leader who loves kids and loves Jesus. When kids feel genuine acceptance, they will open up and ask questions and make comments giving an opportunity to see what the Bible really does say about life issues.
